Course Overview

This course provides a basic introduction to the immediate actions to be taken when encountering an accident or other medical emergency onboard a ship.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites Required!
In order to complete STCW Elementary First Aid (EFA), delegates must hold:
    Delegate must be at least 16 years of age. Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement

Course Content

Delegates completing an STCW Proficiency in Elementary First Aid training course will be able to;
- Position a casualty
- Apply resuscitation techniques
- Control bleeding
- Apply appropriate basic shock management techniques
- Apply appropriate measures in the event of burns and scalds
- Rescue and transport a casualty
- Improvise bandages and use an emergency first aid kit

  • Certification: A Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) certificate will be provided upon successful completion of this course.
  • Certificate validity (months): 60
  • Target audience: All persons intending to pursue a career at sea.
  • Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 5 years.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport
  • Health prerequisites: Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
