Course Overview

A 1-day course that covers: - Relevant health and safety factors - Safe handling practices - The types of abrasive wheels and their operating equipment - Safe operation and handling of angle grinders and bench/ pedestal grinders during engineering activities.

It includes an assessment and 5 practical exercises covering fitting, checking and using cutting and grinding discs on a hand-held grinder; properly removing & replacing a bench mounted grinder stone; adjusting the tool rest, dressing the stone and performing a grinding activity.

  • Certification: Learners will be awarded an ECITB approved certificate which is valid for 3 years once they successfully pass the knowledge assessment and practical assessment.
  • Certificate validity (months): 36
  • Target audience: This course is aimed at any person who will be required to use any type of abrasive wheels equipment at work
  • Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 3 years.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport, Safety Boots
  • Health prerequisites: Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
