Meet Craig Wilson – Aberdeen, The Quay, and Montrose General Manager

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background and what brought you to 3t?

My journey at 3t started in December 2011 when I joined as an Onshore/Offshore Skills Instructor and Assessor. I delivered various health and safety courses both in the training centre and on-site offshore to customers worldwide. Thanks to my previous role as an Offshore Crane Operator, I came into the business with first-hand knowledge of the offshore environment, which I passed on to delegates.

As I have progressed, my roles have included Industrial Skills Team Leader, Operations Manager for Planning & Onboard Training, and now, General Manager for our Dyce, The Quay, and Montrose sites. Each role has helped me prepare for my next position and the experience I’ve gained now helps me to ensure the smooth running of these facilities.

What does your role as General Manager involve?

The management and leadership responsibilities of my role include the day-to-day running of the training facilities and oversee course development to reflect the changing status of the industries we support. It is my job to ensure that clients and delegates receive the best training, and that training is provided efficiently and in accordance with governing bodies.

Do you have any plans for the first few months in the role?

My first priority is familiarise myself with all the new company offerings, look at new course developments and what else we can offer delegates to help them get the best out of their time in our facilities.

Tell us about the centres you manage and what they offer.

When delegates come to any of our centres across the UK, they can always expect state-of-the-art training facilities that offer an incredible variety of courses. For Dyce, The Quay, and Montrose, it’s no different.

We provide training that primarily covers the oil and gas, maritime, and renewables sectors. Alongside the array of courses we provide, we also work with clients to deliver bespoke training that has been developed in line with specific and personalised company recommendations and requirements. This is made possible by the flexibility of our training instructors. Their insight into the industries we support allows them to adapt training to meet evolving needs.

What sets training at 3t apart from other providers?

3t is a company that covers the entire scope of learning and development. Whether classroom-based, practical, or online, we are always engaging with the latest developments and methods to support long-term learning and knowledge retention.

Naturally, technology is key to this. We thrive on exploring new technologies that enhance the learner’s experience. As demonstrated by 3t Digital and the impressive solutions we can provide.

What advice would you give to people looking to start training or a career in a safety-critical industry?

It’s important to take the time to explore what avenue you intend to go down and what works for you. Do your research into the courses available as every sector is different and requires different accreditations.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work?

My favourite things to do when I’m not working are spend time with my family and get stuck into some DIY projects.
