Course Overview

This assessment will examine candidates on their ability to plan or approve lifting operations within the workplace. Ensuring that the lifting operations comply with LOLER regulations and company procedures, this assessment consists of a mix of theoretical examinations and practical assessments, used to assess the candidate’s selection of the appropriate lifting equipment to be used and plan how it should be used. Including the selection of suitable personnel with the necessary competence and experience to complete the task safely.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites Required!
In order to complete OPITO Approved LOLER Competent Person Assessment, delegates must hold:
    Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement. It is also the responsibility of the employer to ensure that learners are ready to be assessed. Learners for competence assessment require: (a) Suitable and relevant experience in both crane operations and hoisting and lifting operations involving the use of portable lifting equipment (b) A formal letter from the current employer on company letterhead recommending the candidate for LCP assessment confirming his/her relevant lifting operations knowledge and experience (refer to (c) below) and supervisory capability. This letter shall be sent directly from the employer to the Assessment Centre prior to the assessment taking place. (c) Knowledge and experience of: (1) LOLER, PUWER and HASAWA regulations (2) Safe Systems of Work (3) Assessment of personnel (4) Management of personnel (5) The inspection of lifting equipment and the concept of discard criteria (6) Safe use of lifting equipment (7) The management of rigging lofts (8) The planning of lifting operations (9) Risk assessment

Course Content

  • Certification: An OPITO certificate will be issued upon successful course completion.
  • Certificate validity (months): 24
  • Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 2 years.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport
