Course Overview

This course aims to give Helideck Emergency Response Team Members the opportunity to practice and maintain the skills required when dealing with helicopter emergency response situations or incidents as members of an Offshore Helideck Emergency Response Team.

In order to complete OPITO Further Helideck Emergency Response Team Member (FHERTM), delegates must hold:
    In order to complete an OPITO HERTM Further training course, delegates must hold a valid and in-date OPITO HERTM certificate OR OPITO HERTM Further certificate, AND a valid OGUK Medical. Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement

Course Content

By the end of the course delegates will be able to;
- Respond appropriately to HERTL directions during a helideck emergency
- Conduct helicopter incident firefighting operations
- Carry out effective execution of emergency response tasks
- Conduct effective helicopter and helideck search and rescue techniques
- Correctly use self-contained breathing apparatus
- Effectively respond to non-firefighting operations during a helicopter incident
- Effectively operate fixed and mobile firefighting systems in a safe and correct manner
- Carry out correct casualty handling techniques
- Understand and perform techniques for keeping calm during an emergency response incident
- Understand the importance of asking for assistance if overwhelmed by the emergency situation
- Effectively communicate with the HERTL and other team members during an emergency response incident

  • Certification: An OPITO certificate will be issued upon successful course completion.
  • Certificate validity (months): 24
  • Target audience: OPITO-certified helideck emergency response team members (HERTMs) required to revalidate an OPITO HERTM certificate
  • Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 2 years.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport
  • Health prerequisites: Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
