Course Overview

The OPITO Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader (OERTL) training equips the leaders of offshore emergency response teams with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to perform their role effectively. The training programme meets the training and assessment requirements for a team leader in the oil and gas industry. OPITO OERTL training involves real smoke and fire in simulated environments and emergency situations.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites Required!
In order to complete OPITO Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader (OERTL), delegates must hold:
    - A valid and in-date OPITO OERTM certificate OR a valid and in-date OPITO OERTM Further certificate

Course Structure

The role of the Emergency Response Team Leader: - Offshore emergency response activities - Elements of teamwork and leadership - Communication requirements for offshore incidents - How to brief and debrief team members - The requirements to initiate servicing of equipment and to replenish stocks - Establishing and maintaining communications including equipment and procedures - Allocating and confirming the team duties and tasks - Operation and use of firefighting and rescue equipment - Operation and use of breathing apparatus - Monitoring the team progress, evaluating, adjusting and communicating the response plan - Monitoring stress in self and others - Debriefing the team

Course Content

Delegates completing this training course will be able to;
- Understand the key responsibilities and main priorities of an emergency response team leader
- Delegate tasks to offshore emergency response team members (OERTMs) effectively
- Communicate effectively with relevant emergency response personnel and lead an OERTM in a clear and confident manner
- Direct OERTMs into an incident area when it is safe to do so and continually assess how the changes in an emergency could impact the safety of the team members
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments throughout an incident
- Look for and respond accordingly to signs of stress in individual OERTMs during an emergency
- Effectively monitor breathing apparatus (BA) control
- Effectively lead an OERTM during both non-fire incidents and firefighting operations
- Conduct missing persons and casualty management effectively during an emergency

  • Certification: An OPITO certificate will be issued upon successful course completion.
  • Certificate validity (months): 24
  • Target audience: Anyone who wants to develop their team leader skills for the offshore environment.
  • Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 2 years.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport.
  • Health prerequisites: Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement.
